Organic and natural spaces will dominate the kitchen space in 2022. Think nature-inspired, wood-tones and warmer hues. Kitchens will continue to be an open concept space with clean and minimal aesthetics in the contemporary and modern design. Large windows will be incorporated to increase natural light with the addition of large sliding doors, opening to a nearby patio area, for an outdoor living space. Larger islands are being designed for prep areas as well as a flexible space to use (workspace, homework space).
Cabinetry
· Homeowners are opting for complete custom fabricated cabinetry for more flexibility with design and features. To keep the open feel of a kitchen, homeowners are mixing wood floating shelves with upper cabinetry
· Flat-panel, wood veneers and wood-look cabinet doors that are easy to clean
· With white and grays slowing making an exit, white is being used as a neutral compliment and mixed with wood tones (wood grain cabinets on bottom, white on top)
· Hues of greens, blues, golds and metallics will compliment the white and wood tones
· Requests for range hoods to match cabinetry (or compliment wood tones) will continue
· Recycling areas in the kitchen is a top request with double trash/recycle pull-out cabinets
· Larger drawers and multiple drawers are replacing standard cabinets for additional storage and a consistent overall look
· Homeowners are requesting additional built-in pantries to blend with cabinetry, as well as separate coffee and bar nooks
· Customization of deeper drawers to house bigger pots/pans
· Specific locations and customization for cabinets to house countertop appliances when not in use (instapots, air-fryers, toaster ovens, mixers, etc)
· Interior cabinet accessories like spice pullouts next to the range, corner swing-out storage units, divider inserts for cookie sheets and pans
· Mechanisms to open drawers and cabinets with a push of a finger (won’t need cabinet pulls/knobs) keep the cabinets clean and minimal
